Problem:
This issue was reported to Quality Engineering as SPR# RCE5X7QY5 and has been
fixed in releases 6.5.2 FP1, 6.5.3 FP1, 6.5.4 and 6.0.5.
Excerpt from the Lotus Notes and Domino Release 6.5.2 FP1, 6.5.3 FP1, 6.0.5 /
6.5.4 MR fix list (available at http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/lotus):
SPR# RCE5X7QY5 - Windows 2003 performance: Implemented a workaround to a
Microsoft issue under Windows 2003. This issue caused the server to take a long
time to shut down. The server also experienced slowdowns while the Domino
server was running as tasks shut down, i.e. Compact. In order to realize this
fix, you must implement the Notes.ini parameter "Debug_Skip_UnmapViewOfFile=1"
on the Domino Server. This parameter should only be implemented on Windows 2003
servers. We also recommend migrating to Windows 2003 SP1 when possible. This
problem has been fixed in 6.0.5, 6.5.4, 6.5.3 FP1 and 6.5.2. FP1.
Supporting Information:
One customer's original complaint was that the server task was taking a long
time to shut down. The customer was provided with the following parameter to
add to the notes.ini of the server:
"ConstrainedSHM=1"
Microsoft has addressed the memory issue documented in SPR# RCE5X7QY5 in
Windows 2003 SP1. After the customer upgraded to Windows 2003 SP1 and re-added
the constrained variable ConstrainedSHM=1 to the notes.ini file, Domino
databases backed up as expected using Veritas 9.1. Windows 2003 SP1 also
address the issue of the Domino server task taking a long time to shut down. More >
